Mt Beauty Pump Station Survey
North East Water operates a raw water offtake on the Kiewa River West Branch in Mt Beauty which supplies the water treatment plant for the town potable water supply. In May 2022, North East Water engaged 12P Consulting to assist with determining the feasibility of supplying the pump station with raw water from the out-flow of AGL’s hydro electric system adjacent to the Kiewa River.
Accessing and measuring the water level in the channel was difficult and dangerous, due to the steep (1.5H:1V) shotcrete batters lining the channel. The solution was to map the area between the pump station and the channel using a survey drone - the Matrice 300 with a survey-grade 45MP camera connected to ground-based survey control in RTK mode. This allowed a highly accurate 3D model to be constructed of the site which then enabled the comparison of heights between the river offtake and the channel.
