Tallangatta Creek Rail Trail Bridge
After a long wait, the High Country Rail Trail east of Tallangatta now has a dedicated cycle and pedestrian crossing over Tallangatta Creek at Bullioh. The new crossing replaces the temporary options of either a low-level, makeshift boardwalk or a detour into a neighbouring paddock and then over Moscrops road bridge closer to Tallangatta. The new bridge construction was enabled after Parklands Albury Wodonga secured funding from the Victorian State Government for the project. 12P Consulting was originally involved in the preparation of concept designs and cost estimates back in 2021 which successfully underpinned the funding, and when it came time to managing the construction process we were engaged again by Towong Shire to deliver the project.
The bridge was designed by Neil Wright, with fabrication and construction by Stuktis - both based in Albury. The construction alignment was positioned around an existing Telstra Fibre Optic cable which led to the alignment being modified slightly from the original design. In addition, the bedrock encountered during the piling process was found to be well over 100MPa compressive strength which involved modifications to the embedment depths on many of the western end piers.
12P Consulting worked collaboratively with Struktis, Towong Shire, Parklands and Neil Wright to modify the design to suit the site conditions encountered. The result is a fit for purpose pedestrian and cycling bridge over Tallangatta Ck - one more link in the HCRT between Wodonga and Corryong.
