Landfill Management

Landfill operators need timely and accurate information about the progression of waste volumes, fill heights, compaction ratios and other metrics to cost-effectively manage these sites while complying with the relevant legislation.

Traditional land-based surveys are time-consuming and don’t provide the in-depth data that comes from combining an aerial survey with ground check-points. Aerial surveying can capture data over vast areas in a matter of minutes and when combined with a handful of ground check points, a very detailed digital elevation model can be generated which can then be used to compare the waste surface at different points in time and therefore to calculate waste volume streams.

As an example, a regional Victorian Council has engaged 12P Consulting since March 2020 to provide ongoing monitoring of its 50Ha landfill and waste recovery centre. Routine visits since early 2020 have yielded deep insights into the waste stream and has allowed Council staff to effectively manage future expansion and comply with EPA licensing requirements.
