Carbon fibre bridge strengthening

In late 2019, 12P Consulting was contracted by Alpine Shire Council to manage the design and construction of a carbon fibre strengthening system for two road bridges, the Victoria Bridge in Myrtleford and the Roberts Bridge in Porepunkah. The main goal of the project was to increase the load limits of both bridges, resulting in positive outcomes for local businesses and residents. The project was split into two parts, with each bridge being considered as a separate project, and a different contractor assigned to each.

The first phase of the project involved preparing a successful funding application with the Victorian Government. 12P Consulting worked with the Council to prepare detailed proposals and presentations to justify the project's benefits and secured the necessary funding. This was a critical step in the project's success, and 12P Consulting was able to coordinate funding requirements throughout the project to ensure that everything was completed within budget.

The next phase was the preparation of design scope and coordination of structural engineering services. 12P Consulting worked closely with the engineers to evaluate the existing bridge structures and determine the best approach for strengthening them. The team developed an effective design scope that met the Council's requirements and budget.

Once the design scope was established, 12P Consulting moved to the tender phase of the project. The company prepared tender documents and managed the tender process for each bridge separately. This involved advertising the tender, evaluating responses, and negotiating contracts with the selected contractors. The entire process was transparent, competitive, and cost-effective, ensuring the best possible outcome for the Council.

During the construction phase, 12P Consulting acted as the Council's Superintendent on the project. This included regular site inspections, progress reporting, and managing contract variations. 12P Consulting ensured that both contractors adhered to the project schedule and quality standards, while also addressing any issues that arose in a timely and effective manner.

Finally, 12P Consulting ensured that the project was successfully completed and acquitted the grant. The project's positive outcome was the increased load limit for both bridges, which had a direct positive impact on the local businesses and residents. 12P Consulting's project management expertise enabled the Council to achieve its objectives in a cost-effective and timely manner, while also ensuring that all parties involved in the project were satisfied with the outcome.
